Customer Reviews:Floodgate family, Easter 2009 Wow! What a gorgeous villa. We wrote in your book about just how spacious it was and how well suited to all the family's needs. A well stocked kitchen and all the books and games - fabulous. The island is lovely, the people delightful and we appreciated being there at a relatively quiet time. We think August could be too busy and too hot. You were right about the need for the vehicle and one of the highlights of our holiday was the riding around in the jeep. Everything was very smooth in terms of the transfers and the vehicle hire and of course, we have to mention the wonderful Doris and her husband Tony. She's a gem. Susan Dodson and family rented the farmhouse in October 2004 "My husband, 2 daughters and myself spent a week at Ghammer Farmhouse in October 2004. Simply, it was the most wonderful holiday we have ever had. The weather was lovely, the beaches relatively empty and the island a rich combination of untouched, beautiful and interesting. The rocky landscape is littered with the most breath-taking churches, including one closest to the farmhouse that the late pope visited. While we were there, a lovely old priest reached into his pocket as we passed him and handed each of the girls a 'gold' medallion - they were thrilled. That characterises the islanders - they are very friendly and speak amazingly good English. "The farmhouse itself is full of character and has a hundred hiding places for the children. It is not over-looked and very private. It has everything you could imagine needing from a truly relaxing holiday home, including no TV (which I was a little nervous about ... the children however have never played more beautifully together). And Doris the maid is sent from heaven. The standards she keeps in the farmhouse are what you would want for your own home. And, she baby-sits! There are lots of very nice restaurants to explore, in particular a fantastic Italian called 'Il Panzier' where the service is second to none. "Our advice if you go there ... just go with the flow; whatever they recommend, try it. It will be worth it." Jo Cowan and family were our first guests, in July 2003: "Thank you for an idyllic holiday in Gozo. Your house is exquisite and very nicely renovated. Doris arrived every day and worked like a Trojan to make my life sooo much more relaxing. "It was the perfect place to teach the kids to snorkel whilst also tending to the needs of a very young baby. Gozo really is a lovely island. We met quite a few older people in Tatitas who knew your parents or remembered you or both. I got the impression that going to Gozo was a secret activity only a select group of clever discerning types had achieved since around the 70’s. "My only advice is don’t change a thing. It works!" Polly Rubinstein, co-owner of the farmhouse: "My parents discovered Gozo when I was just four. We went every summer for the next 20 years, until the house was sold in 1987. I was left with memories of magical childhood holidays, which even as a teenager I looked forward to for the sun, sea and sense of safety and freedom we enjoyed. "In 2002 my partner, Peter, and I returned with our 3 young children and fell in love with the island all over again. After all those years, my island was still unspoilt and we realised we could give our children a taste of the same magic I had loved so much. "Along with our good friends, Andy and Penny Loveless, and their three young boys, we found an old farmhouse that had belonged to childhood friends of mine. With the addition of a private pool, we have created a wonderful place for family and activity holidays." |
