This is a Luzzu, one of the traditional fishing boats of the Maltese Islands. This was taken at our favourite swimming and eating spot, Mgarr ix-ini, a lovely little inlet on the South of the island. full size image

Peter spent several nights going out fishing with local fishermen Joe and Charlie.
They still use a Luzzu - one of the traditional painted fishing boats of the Maltese Islands.
Sadly, as with the whole of the mediterranean, fish stocks have declined dramatically over the last 5 years, so they can no longer make a living by fishing alone.
This was their return at dawn after several hours out at sea, using the traditional methods they have been using on the island for hundreds of years. full size image
